Robust inversion of carbon dioxide fluxes over temperate Eurasia in 2006–2008

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) fluxes over the temperate Eurasian region have been estimated robustly for the period 2006-2008 using the time-dependent inversion com-ponent of the TRANSCOM protocol. Data from six CO₂ measuring stations in temperate Eurasia, including the Indian station at Hanle along with 75 others from different parts of the world have been used. A careful analysis of a posteriori errors and model resolution shows that temperate Eurasia is a major residual sink of CO₂ with a value of 1.5 Gigatonnes of carbon/year.
