IG3IS participation in Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week

Around 4,000 people from all over the region and many other countries participated in the Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW) that heard calls for more ambition and stronger collaboration among all levels of government, the private sector and civil society to implement the national climate plans (known as Nationally Determined Contribution, or "NDCs") and to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

IG3IS Featured at Successful Launch of UESI Index

During the COP 24 international climate negotiations, a friend of IG3IS’ at Data-Driven Yale, and their partners at the Samuel Centre for Social Connectedness co-hosted the official launch of the Urban Environment and Social Inclusion (UESI) Index in Katowice, Poland.

Coverage of the IG3IS/UNFCCC Side Event at COP 24

This Tuesday at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 24th Conference of the Parties (COP 24), IG3IS and UNFCCC hosted a joint side event entitled “Innovative atmospheric observation-based tools to support climate mitigation action." This event intended to introduce the COP community to the benefits that IG3IS provides national, urban, and private stakeholders through top down assessment of mitigation action.

The First IG3IS Symposium and User Summit Paves the Path Forward

This week, IG3IS hosted its first Symposium and User Summit on 13 - 15 November in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting brought together key users from a number of different sectors in order to engage in three-day dialogue with technical developers of IG3IS information.

IG3IS Urban/Subnational Science Team Meeting

Following the completion of the successful IG3IS/TRANSCOM meeting this week, IG3IS hosted a meeting for its science team members working on urban and subnational projects which was open to all participants from the IG3IS/TRANSCOM meeting. This gathering was used to discuss the first IG3IS Symposium and User Summit, and the possibility of IG3IS publications focused on what the team has learned with IG3IS pilot projects thus far.

IG3IS/TransCom Workshop: Discusses Developing Cross Cutting Activities

Following this morning’s panel discussion aimed at developing strategies for engaging stakeholders, Dr. Thomas Lauvaux of the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement - Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (LSCE-IPSL) and Dr. Sander Houweling of the Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) led a discussion on implementing these strategies through IG3IS’ cross-cutting activities.
