The Hestia Project
Status: Ongoing
Scale: Urban
Region: North America (IV)
The Hestia Project quantifies all fossil fuel CO2 emissions at the scale of buildings, streets, and factories for vast urban areas. This is done using a data modeling system that combines multiple data sets (such as traffic data, power production and local air pollution data) with simulation tools.
This can provide stakeholders with a tool for designing and implementing carbon management strategies, as well as effectively verifying emission reductions and creating economically efficient mitigation options. So far, this has been successfully applied to four major U.S. cities: Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, and Los Angeles.
