Toronto Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Program
Status: Ongoing
Scale: Urban
Region: North America (IV)
An urban component of Environment Canada's Greenhouse Gas Measurement Program that saw five sites installed in the Greater Toronto Area using in-situ instruments as well as ground-based remote sensing. In recent years, bespoke emission inventories were developed and regular mobile greenhouse gas surveys were conducted. This enabled researchers to discover that methane emissions in this region are significantly lower than predicted, and how fossil fuel burning is contributing to the local increase in carbon dioxide.
