Objectives

National Scale  

Provide information to inventory managers and national governments to reduce the uncertainties of national emission inventory reporting.

Sectoral Scale

Improve understanding and quantification of emissions and removals from sectors with significant uncertainties, such as agriculture, Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), waste and fugitive methane emissions from industrial sources.    

Urban Scale

Provide information on urban GHG sources and sinks to cities and sub-national entities at the required spatial, temporal, and sectoral resolution. The IG³IS community strives to match existing R&D and pre-operational urban-scale monitoring and modelling systems to the information needs of stakeholders. Use cases include evaluation of whole city emissions, trend analysis, space/time/sector quantification, sector-specific analysis of emissions, and co-benefits and trade-offs with air quality inventories and biosphere exchange.
