National Scale
Provide information to inventory builders and national governments to reduce the uncertainties of national emission inventory reporting to UNFCCC and guide national GHG policies and regulations.
Sectoral Scale
Improve understanding of emissions and uptakes from sectors with significant uncertainties, such as agriculture, Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF,) waste and fugitive methane emissions from industrial sources.
Urban Scale
IG3IS supports non-state actors, including cities and states, which are major GHG sources, such as megacities, by providing actionable information on their GHG emissions. Delivered at the required spatial, temporal and sectoral resolution to evaluate and guide progress towards emission reduction goals.
It aims to match existing R&D and pre-operational urban-scale monitoring and modelling systems to the information needs of stakeholders, for example, whole city emissions, trend analysis, space/time/sector quantification, sector-specific analysis of emissions, co-benefits, and trade-offs with air quality inventories and biosphere exchange.
Such global efforts contribute to the Paris Agreement’s global stocktake as governments and the UNFCCC define their requirements
