Beijing-Tianjin-Heibei (JJJ) City Cluster Carbon Monitoring Project
Status: Ongoing
Scale: Urban/Regional
Region: Asia (II)
China has committed to stabilizing their emissions by 2030 and has already implemented a carbon trading system in seven cities. The Beijing-Tianjin-Heibei City Cluster is one of the strongest and densest carbon emitting places in the world, and this project therefore proposed to establish a carbon monitoring system for the JJJ region. The project combines continuous observations of CO2 from air, space, and ground measurements using a model-data assimilation approach to best estimate carbon sources and sinks. The hope is to subsequently share this knowledge with the government, industries, and surrounding communities.
