Salt Lake City Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System
Status: Ongoing
Scale: Urban
Region: North America (IV)
As one of the longest-running urban CO2 monitoring networks in the world, with the first site established in 2001, this network has been expanded to more sites over northern Utah and now incorporates methane studies. The measurements also include unique on-going mobile observations from a light rail platform that yields continuous spatial distributions of greenhouse gases at high granularity. The network is complemented by extensive meteorological observations, including radiosondes and profilers, as well as air quality observations. The combination of greenhouse gas and air quality observations provides an opportunity to study this relationship, and the co-benefits that result from climate mitigation and improved air quality.
