IG3IS participation on the Cambodia Climate Rationale Workshop (February 2020)
In October 2018, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has been engaged as an expert service provider by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). In response to the Paris Agreement call for “Strengthening scientific knowledge on climate in a manner that informs climate services and supports decision-making (Article 7, paragraph 7 (c))”, the GCF initiated an integrated approach to facilitate the generation and use of climate information in decision-making.
From 03rd to 07th February 2020, a workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, took place to identify and develop information-based tools for the government to Cambodia to improve the access to reliable information during the decision-making process. Specifically adressing the LULUCF sector, IG3IS was presented as an outstanding approach in order to assess the potential of Cambodian forests to uptake CO2 and for the government to engage further with the carbon market.
The event was attended by 78 individuals, including the Nationally Designated Authority (NDAs), the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (NMHS), national decision makers and sectoral technical specialist, the GCF, international and bilateral organisations (e.g. UNFCCC, GWP, etc.), international and regional climate change specialists with experience in climate data and services provision and other national stakeholders engaged in the development of GCF-funded activities.
