Under the WWF initiative One Planet City Challenge, WWF and WMO designed a 3- part webinar series to showcase success stories where local governments use the best available scientific information as a basis for decision making aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks and improving urban air quality.
CARBON NEUTRAL CITIES
The city of Paris, which is one of the champions in IG3IS implementation, showcased the use of atmospheric observations to guide its emission reductions and strides towards carbon neutrality
With expert speakers:
- Yann Francoise, Head of Climate, Energy and Circular Economy Strategies, Urban Ecology Agency, City of Paris.
- Thomas Lauvaux, Research Scientist, Environment and Climate Sciences Laboratory (LSCE).
Presented by:
- Tabaré A. Currás, Technical Lead, WWF Cities
Our ability to measure GHG emissions in cities gives us a better understanding of the critical problem of climate change in urban environments. High-resolution monitoring of the atmosphere, combined with modelling, enables local governments to more accurately size GHG emissions, thereby providing reliable information upon which to make informed decisions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
During this webinar you will gain knowledge on how atmospheric observations can support mitigation actions on the path towards carbon neutral cities.
