Los Angeles Megacity Carbon Project
Status: Ongoing
Scale: Urban
Region: North America (IV)
The Los Angeles Megacity Carbon Project leverages robust methods for assessing carbon emissions and rapid advances in measurement technology to monitor the atmospheric trends of greenhouse gas emissions from California's South Coast Air Basin. The goal is to divide these measurements by sector to identify the major emitters of greenhouse gases in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. This is a collaborative effort between NIST, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and additional partners from academia, other federal agencies and the private sector.
